Yes, you can... just make sure you update your PRL after installing the rom.

Root your Droid; flash it with a ROM; and then dial *22891 SEND (reboot after 10 seconds, then make an outgoing call i.e. voicemail)...

Edit: Oh, and don't forget to download DroidWall from the Market to control your 3G data usage after rooting.

Hi BizFox,
Have you found a rooted version of 2.1 or 2.2 for the Motorola Droid that has been properly built with iptables and related components that actually works with DroidWall? If so, could you please advise me as I'm "burning" ROMs like crazy and not finding ones that work with DroidWall - I'm currently on Sapphire 0.8.4 and it, too, is a no-go? I'd really appreciate help with this b/c I'd like to be able to enable 3G for, say, gmail and maybe another app or two.
