If you rooted your phone you could, or at least rename them, so they don't show up.

I do not believe you can delete them. Just don't use them.
The problem is Amazon seems to start itself automatically. The thing that bothers me is they both have a lot of privileges.

Even if you don't use them they have access to:

  • Storage
  • Network communications
  • Phone Calls
  • System tools
  • Your personal information
  • Your accounts
  • Storage
Seems to me programs with that kind of access to my data should be controllable by me.

Can we at least stop Amazon from starting by itself? Anybody know?

No, you cannot stop it from starting. As mentioned the best you can do is to root and then delete the programs. Either way, even if the programs are started they are not actually doing anything. Just sitting in memory waiting for you to use them.

root and get rid of them for christ sake's.
Actually this is the first good reason I've seen to root a phone.
I do think it's a security issue to allow unwanted apps with those kinds of privileges.

Up until now, I've been more interested in keeping the phone in the most "supported" state.
