You can make swipe up or down on the screen do whatever you want it to. ( I use swipe down to open my camera) still have to use the camera app to take the picture. I don't think you can change the physical buttons without root access

What about Settings/Applications/then double tap home launch and change it to 'Camera.'

Personally I use 'Voice Search' for the double tap of the home button, but 'Camera' works too.

One annoyance is when you double tap it must be two quick taps and you get a blank home screen a slight pause then
the camera app opens.

I have not found an app that does it. Some post say if you Root the phone, then you can do it. I miss the button also.

Now my camera sound when I take a picture isn't working
