Is it possible to have a shortcut to the camcorder, not the camera?

Yes, open up your app drawer, long press on the camcorder icon and then drag it to your desktop...

(you can do this with ANY app)

The camcorder shortcut actually goes to the camera. You still have to click the camcorder option in the camera which is what I'm trying to avoid.

Not on my X... Camera goes to camera, and camcorder goes to camcorder. They both contain a button to switch to the other once open.

If your camcorder icon is going to your camera, something is wrong with that icon. Factory reset would probably clear it up.

Are you running the leaked 2.2? If you are, then all bets are off, and you are on your own.

Not on my X... Camera goes to camera, and camcorder goes to camcorder.

I have both a camera & camcorder icon on the home screen of my X. (rooted running 2.2 Froyo)

The camcorder icon opens the camcorder directly, there is no 2nd step involved.
