Buying unsubsidized

I want to buy a new phone to replace my d2 and i will vzw insure any new phone or do you have to buy it from then for it to be covered

You normally have to buy it from them - however, they normally have what's called "open enrollment" once a year (I think around March/April) where you can add any device to be insured by Asurion.
 
Just make sure with squaretrade or ensquared or whomever that you have a receipt - if you buy it off of craigslist or swappa or something like that where there's no proof of purchase, they might not insure it (unless I'm mistaken).

they will accept if its used on ebay. not used anywhere else.

If its new out of the box, they also will too.
