Bluetooth sound delay

So I'm using my GNex via bluetooth with a Bose Soundlink speaker. The problem I'm having is that if im not constantly listening to something it seems as tho the bluetooth goes into a sleep mode and then the next sound emitted is cut in half when it wakes up again. is there a way to lengthen the wake time of the bluetooth?

I've been having a similar problem with my car stereo and my nexus, it cuts off the first couple seconds of sound, annoying on songs, but makes the navigation voice unusable.
