Black screen help please!!

When i unlock the phone it goes straight to a black screen with only the top bar visible with the time and date on it but i cant use the screen at all. What is there to do??

I have done this before, I have also pushed a modded framework-res.apk into the system/app folder on accident

i have already pulled the battery a few times

if he hadnt modded his phone the launcher should not be missing, but if so he can boot in safe mode.

i have a droid x so if i hold the menu button on the left while turning on it will go in safe mode
