better keyboard questions

I have a red/white/black wallpaper on my background on droid 2. Im new to this smart phone stuff. I was noticing you can buy an app for 2.99 that allows you use themes or icon colors of different sorts. Basically i'd like to have my slide out qwerty board have different colors than the blue/white. and icons maybe different. Is this the right track to do this? I'd like to have the highlighted buttons on my kb be red or something.

Also. I installed something called telsa flash light that uses your camera flash for a light. Seems when it is used though, my highlighted keyboard buttons disappear along with those menu buttons on touch screen. I have to reload the telsa app, turn it on and off, then the highlighted buttons come back.. any ideas?

I may be wrong, but the slide-out keyboard cannot change colors. The backlight is white.
