Sync to Google. Chrome syncs bookmarks. Google syncs contacts, calendar, apps, etc.

Go into your phone settings and select accounts, then Google (I'm am guessing it will be this on the nexus). Chances are it is already synced. Enjoy your new Note 5.

I also use Google Voice for Visual voicemail are there any special steps to ensure smooth transition to AT&T?

All stuff Google will come over with your Gmail account.. App data you won't be able to restore since it's not rooted new phone .. I use Google Voice for my VM which always followed me once I set it to default

You can Sync all these items through your Google account and the Play Store will remember your apps. Application data however, is a different story. It can't be sync'd unless the app itself offers the option through the "cloud"
