Best app for icons and themes?

SquireSCA

Silver Member
Rooted DX running the latest stock ROM from Verizon.

I searched for awhile, so if your first response is "use the search button a-hole", I will find you and come to your house and kick you in the neck. Been on forums for about 16 years now, I know the drill... :-)

That said, I just want a simple app that allows me to theme my phone, and/or use custom icon packs. I don't want a lot of bloat, I don't want to have to install different ROM's or hack the phone too much. I also don't want anything that will slow the phone down.

As I said, stock ROM but rooted and running 1.1Ghz on default voltage.

What's the best tool for the job here?

Thanks!

You can use either launcher pro or adwlauncher ex. You can grab icons from various places, such as xda. You can also change the theme of the launcher as well.

I tried those, but they change so many other things. I kinda just want to replace some icons and maybe use a nice theme. I will play with adw launcher some more later and see if I can set it up the way I want. Thanks!

what do they change, that you dont like?

another suggestion would be to get Desktop Virtualizer and grab some icons. Then you can change the icons on the screen. You wont have many options as far as themes go, unless you root. a launcher is your best bet

Well, it just gave me a blank home screen and I had to sit there and recreate everything from scratch.

I am getting the hang of it now. I installed the Gingerbread theme, but I want to install some additional icons.

Also, can't seem to find a way to easily take screenshots. The iPhone spoiled me in that regard. Not sure why someone has not seen fit to add that into the Android OS yet.

What is an easy way to just install some icon packs, that I can then choose from on a per-icon basis?

I have the phone set up the way I want after an hour of tinkering, but the problem is that gmail no longer works. I have to manually update to either get mail, or if I delete mail, I have to manually synch to get it to delete them off the server.

Anyone else experience this? if this is a known bug without a fix, then it doesn't make sense to use the launcher. I would rather have my phone work properly than have it look slightly prettier, you know?

is there a fix for this?
