Benchmarking. I retire with this question

I see it in people's signatures and spotted it in the market, but what I don't understand is what it does for you. I see how it does some calculation and times it, graphs it under speed vs time (to do what, I don't know).

So what does one look for when running the app? What should we learn from it?

there are a few benchmark programs. I have neocore which is a fancy 3d robot tank battle animation. It tells you how many frames per second (fps) your phone is running. Other benchmark programs will tell you how long it takes your phone to calculate Pi. What we can learn from this is if overclocking speeds up your cpu that much. You could run a benchmark at stock speed, then 800mhz, 1000mhz etc and see how much performance is gained with over clocking.
