Barnacle Wifi-Tether vs Normal Wifi-Tether?

So, which do you guys think is better and why?

If you don't know what Barnacle is, search "Barnacle" in the market.

I'm kind of starting to like Barnacle more and more. ;D

I'm debating getting Barnacle tethering just because I've had a lot of bad luck with Wireless Tether for Root Users. Was hoping you'd be able to give your review of both like the above poster :P

Well I have actually had issues with both of them. Sometimes barnacle doesn't stop correctly when you are finished tethering and it cooks your battery, and sometimes wifi tether for root users doesn't start correctly, so you can't tether in the first place. I hope Froyo comes soon, and I hope VZW doesn't block the tethering portions of it.

I just installed Barnacle this afternoon and have only played with it for about 15min or so. Unfortunately, the WEP key portion is bunked at the moment. Also, I can't get the dang thing to let my laptop connect with the MAC address entered into the app. Oh well... Either way, it has a lot of potential from my limited use - and I need to deal with that netfilter stuff.

Wifi Tether is free and works great for me, so there's no reason to look into alternatives, especially ones that cost $10....

Good luck.

Yep, you're right. I had a Market-based reading failure. Wifi Tether works so well for me, that I've never bothered to look up alternatives until this thread, and I cant even seem to do that right...

My bad.

i have wifi tether and it works great for me so far easy to connect and stops when it should. sometimes it takes a min or two to show up but not a real complaint for what i get out of it

If you are only interested in using it for your own computer....
I liked PdaNet. It is a nice WiFi tether app. It does require installing interface software on your pc also. It is also free and the USB connection charges your phone while you are connected. Support is good also.

I just don't get how anyone can have a problem with wifi tether, it's idiot-proof.

It is idiot-proof. When it works. My problem with it was that I would click to start tethering, then it would pop up a message saying error: tethering not started, and then it would do nothing. I immediately went to the market and installed barnacle and it worked perfectly, so I don't know what its problem was.
