Aviation logbook app

There was another thread on this. We are SOL for now unless you know how to code an app. Logbook pro is working on a solution possibly mid-2010 which means 2011.

I have Logbook Pro and have used it on my PC for years. I swear it's one guy and his pet fish running the company. Never seen a company so far behind technology as these people. It's always "we're working on it." By the time they come out with an Android app most of us will have moved on.

I'm hoping to cut my teeth programming a weight and balance program. I work for a part 135 operator so I just use my flight and duty log as my logbook now. I will have to check on the app I use to use on my Palm for logbook stuff.

I worked with the guy to wrote the program. He is a airline pilot who does logbookpro as a side business. Yes, he is slow compared to other companies because it's him and one other programmer.

I, however, have yet to see a better program than APDL for professional pilots. Unfortunately I don't have time to code so I'm at the mercy of others. There is a guy at my airline who is currently writing an iphone and android logbook program. However, I believe it will only be released to employees and unavailable to others due to company regulations.

Yeah I know. An update is that they are developing one for the iphone only and not droid... I know zero about coding but the company IT guys said the android platform is too difficult to work with... I don't know why they say that. I'm guessing because of the many versions of the software. 1.5, 2.01, 2.1 etc... and it's not exactly top priority because it doesn't generate revenue and a lot of man hours are going into the iphone app alone.

Very frustrating..... I'm holding out hope for Logbook Pro company to get on this but when my contract runs out I'm going to have to switch to a windows phone or the iphone. Using the stupid "little red book" is grating on me after years of using APDL and I hate the google calendar which goes hand in hand with using APDL. I thought after 5 months of a popular Android phone being on the market there would be at least a whisper of a good calendar program and pilot logbook program but I guess it's just not becoming as popular as I thought it would be.

All we can do is hold out I guess. Being March already (and the Droid came out in November) still surprised no decent logbook apps are out. Oh well, what's another month?

"Thank you for your inquiry. I don't want to mislead anyone so I'm going to be honest and up front so you know exactly where we stand. Logbook Pro 2010 is our priority development effort, as it is now, it probably won't be ready until this fall at the earliest. We are working on the iPhone app now, Android I'm not sure when that's coming. It may not be until after Logbook Pro 2010 releases so I don't foresee it coming in 2010. Android is not our priority at this moment."

So it seems any work from people on an aviation logbook has since died? Shame.

How do they feed it into APDL if that app doesn't work on android os? Hoping this can replace APDL when finished.

Oh, sorry, I got APDL and LogBook Pro mixed up :-( My understanding is that APDL only works on Palm and PocketPC, and there is no concrete plan for an Android version. LogBook Pro runs on the desktop (Windows or Mac).

This Android app allows the pilots to capture the flight details, which can then be exported and imported into LogBook Pro.
