Auto GPS On/Off App for the Car Mount?

There's an app in beta called Tasker (http://tasker.dinglisch.net/) that I use to configure my droid when mounted in the car dock. While I don't think the current 0.7b beta version supports setting the GPS, I think the developer has recently added that feature.

Is there a reason you want to turn the GPS off? Unless there is an application actively using the GPS, it uses a neglible amount of power.

Locale, with a couple of plugins (dock and GPS) can do this. If you mean starting the GPS app, then you just need the Dock plugin. Locale can start any shortcut.

so basically you can have it open Music player when mounted to the car dock and NOT have the GPS mode enable?

Yes it's possible to launch an app and configure the GPS settings. I have mine configured to turn off WiFi, turn off the lock screen, and navigate to the standard home page. I then reverse the settings when the device is undocked.

cool, will have to try it. I use the car mount mostly for listening to music as opposed to GPS (I usually know how to get where i want to go) and the GPS auto launching is very annoying to me.
