attachments to phone?

i was reading this forum for a couple hours today (guys, youve an incredible resource here!) and while searching for answers to my questions (to prevent many reduandant threads) i read the thread on changing desktop image. while it explained the process, it did not explain how to get the image from your computer to your droid. i emailed the image to my gmail account set up on the droid, and then checked my email from the droid. while the image showed up in the email, i could not figure out how to save it to the droid. my latest round of questions are:
  • how do i save email attachments to the droid?
  • i have hundreds of .mp3s on my computer, but cannot figure out how to get them onto my droid, where they go once they are on the droid, or how to access them once theyre on the droid. when i plug my droid into my laptop the SD card shows up as "removable drive" but when i attempt to open the folder i get an error. i think this may be due to the formatting on the card? any way to make them place nice?
  • is there an application that will allow you to play .wmv on your droid? i have hundreds of DVDs ripped into .wmv format already on my computer.
thanks!

I don't believe you can save attachments to your email to the phone.

The easiest way I send pics to my phone is email them to it. Just your phone number@vzwpix.com. That works for MP3's as well.

When you plug your phone into the laptop, make sure to "mount" it from your Droids menu. Then you can just copy over files to the droid no problem.

I've not heard of a player for wmv's yet

thanks for the information! in addition, is it possible to make my phone to where the screen goes dark after the default time, but that the phone doesnt require the unlock until after 30 minutes?

Get a program for your PC called "DVD Catalyst 3.0" and you can use it to easily convert WMVs to H.264 MP4s that can be played on the Droid. This also includes ripping commercial DVDs. Good stuff.

I just started a thread regarding email attachments, check it out.

Handbrake...free and will not cause your videos to get out of sync when FF and RW like most other video converters.

As mentioned....plug droid in, go to drop down menu, select mount and you then can drag and drop files to and from your droid. Does not matter if you move an entire folder over or even create your own. When you unplug the Droid, it will quickly scan your card for any new files.

i sent my attachments to my gmail account via my hotmail and pulled it up on my phone. it gave me the option to download under the attached file.

haven't tried mp3s or any thing like that, but i was able to attach 6 wallpapers in an email on my hotmail account then send it to my gmail (the one that is set up on my phone). when i opened the email on my phone it displayed a thumbnail of the images and two options below the pic(preview and download) just downloaded them. also if you preview one and go to your options you can chose to set it as a wallpaper.

hope this helps:)

Yeah, JPGs are the only file types that can be saved from an attachment in either the POP email client or the Gmail App. Personally, I need to be able to save PDFs, Docs, XLS, etc...

SirSyeco, could you elaborate on how this works? I tried this with mp3's (it's what I used to do on my old RAZR to get my own ringtones on it), but when the message with the mp3's arrives on my phone, I only get the ability to listen to them, not save them to the phone. Am I missing something?
