Please take a look at ArkMC DLNA/UPnP application for Android devices.

ArkMC allows you to:
1. watch media (video, photos, and listen to music) located at PCs, MACs, network storages and other DLNA devices on your Android device.
2. send media from one DLNA device to another.
3. send media from your Android device to another devices, such as PCs, TV, another DLNA mobile devices.

Servers (devices where media is stored):
- Desktop and laptop computers with:
o Windows Media Player
o XBMC
o Foobar2000
o PS3 Media Server
o TwonkyMedia server
o AllShare
- Android devices
- Network Attached storages with DLNA/UPnP
- Set top boxes with DLNA/UPnP
- Media Players with DLNA/UPnP

Renderers (devices where media can be played):
- Desktop and laptop computers with:
o Windows Media Player
o XBMC
o Foobar2000
- Android devices
- iPhone, iPad
- Network Attached storages with DLNA/UPnP
- Set top boxes with DLNA/UPnP
- Media Players with DLNA/UPnP
- TVs with DLNA/UPnP
- Acoustics with DLNA/UPnP

EXAMPLE:
1) run ArkMC,
2) see the list of servers,
3) select Windows Media Player
4) select music file, or video file
5) play it either on Android device, or send it to TV

3rd party players support enables you to use standard android player, or any other installed player. This ensures that you can play a lot of different file formats.

FAQ

1. How can I manage my home media network from ArkMC?

Start ArkMC. Application will automatically search for all UPNP/DLNA® servers and renderers available in the media network. Select a media file from DMS and send it to available DMR. You can control the playback from Now Playing Tab.

2. Why cannot ArkMC discover my server/renderer?

The reasons could be:
- your device is not connected to a Wi-Fi network;
- your network connection is not stable or your router is not working properly;
- if the other device is not DLNA-enabled, it cannot be discovered by ArkMC;
- sometimes, it is necessary to turn off the firewall on your computer. Make sure your consult a professional specialist before you make such changes to your machine.

3. Some media files cannot be played back on ArkMC DMR

We are currently using a standard Android embedded media player for a local playback, and a range of supported media formats depends on your Android device maker. You can change Ark DMR settings through a Player software option. You may choose any media player installed on your device which supports certain media files. Note, the 3rd party players cannot be controlled remotely.

4. Why do I have 3rd party media players available on my list of players?

The 3rd party media players on your list of players appear depending on what type of a media file you choose. Media server provides content type information, and then Android system interprets it and selects a list of 3rd party players supporting a playback of certain media file format.

5. Does ArkMC run in background while, for instance, I’m browsing the Web?

At this moment ArkMC does not support background behavior. This feature will be available in the future.

6. How can I send media files from Win Media Player to ArkMC renderer?

Select media file from a list on your Win Media Player. Click the right button and choose “Play to” option, then choose Arkuda DMR from the list of available renderers.

8. How long does it take to connect to a DLNA server?

ArkMC should be able to find servers and renderers in the network within 1 minute upon condition that the network connection is running well and consistent and the Wi-Fi router is capable of transferring multicast data packages.

9. Which devices are DLNA enabled?
You can find a list of DLNA certified devices in official DLNA organization website: Product Search

GoogleTV devices

I was excited to see your posts, however excitement quickly turned to disappointment when Google Play stated your app was not compatible with my Vizio Co-Star 2nd gen GoogleTV STB (soon to be 3rd gen...). Are there any plans to release this on the GoogleTV platform (Honeycomb Android 3.2)?

Thank you for you comment.
Sometimes applications are not available for specific device not because of developers. We have completed all the requirements for such devices as STB, and ArkMC can work with no touch screen. We have tested ArkMC application on VEOLO stb - it works fine.

And it is not the first time application is not available for some devices.

We would try to do the following:
1) contact google with request for application approval for the device
2) wait

I hope it would be fixed soon. dancedroid

Where do I go to contact Google regarding your app approval? On Google Play I didn't see any links while I was on your apps page. Is there a particular address or url I should be using?

Sorry for such inconveniences. It is about us to contact Google. We will check required specification one more time, and if we found some compatibility issues, we will change it in the following version of application.
Sometimes strange things happen with this issue. For example we have Motorola XOOM, and sometimes ArkMC disappeared for two weeks from the list of compatible applications, and then turned back.

Ok thanks. In this case it would be for the Vizio Co-Star (VAP430) GoogleTV Set Top Box which runs Honeycomb 3.2.

I've got galaxy s3. I use ArkMC to listen to music from my WD NAS. It works good. But, I have white galaxy, I want to know if it is possible to have an option to change interface colors to white?

Yes, we are thinking on this. We a planning to add option for customized interface.

Can you allso add the option for setting up default renderer.
For example when I use only my mobile device for playback - I need to select it with every music track. I want to click on music file and get it instanly played!

Thanks for the idea. We would add this function to our back log.

It could be Windows Media Player - you just need to set it up. It could be also XBMC.
But the best server for music sharing we have tires is Foobar2000 ( foobar2000 ). It is specially designed just for music.
After installation of Foobar2000 you have to install DLNA plugin - UPnP/DLNA Renderer, Server, Control Point 0.99.45
The advantage of Foobar2000 is its speed of work. It works almost instantly with no delays.
