Another new Android tablet is about to hit the market. This one is from Archos and is called the 97 Carbon. It actually could be a decent product because it matches up a larger 9.7-inch IPS screen with a decent price of between $229.99-$249.99. Here are a few more specs followed by the press release:
  • Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 9.7-inch IPS display
  • 1GHz processor
  • HDMI out
  • A full-sized USB port
  • Front and rear cameras
  • 16GB of storage and a microSD slot
  • 0.45-inch thick aluminum casing
It seems that all the manufacturers, even the little guys like Archos, are striving to find ways to compete with the Kindle Fire and the Nexus 7. This is not a bad price for a decent looking device. What do you guys think?

ARCHOS Releases New ELEMENTS Line; Introduces First in the Series, the 97 Carbon

ARCHOS, an award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, is pleased to introduce the ARCHOS 97 carbon, the first of its new tablet range called "ELEMENTS", an entry-level line up of 7, 8, and 9.7 inch tablets that combine ARCHOS design and engineering with full access to Google PlayTM and a full suite of Google apps at an affordable price.

Equipped with the latest mobile technology and an elegant aluminum finish, the ARCHOS 97 Carbon is only 21.8 ounces and 0.45" thick. Its sharp and clear IPS multi-touch screen delivers amazing vivid colors and impressive wide viewing angles. For the smoothest interface experience, ARCHOS has powered this tablet with a fast 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM while running AndroidTM 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich".

Combining very high performance hardware, intuitive software and affordability, this Google PlayTM supported device will be available starting in July 2012 for $229.99 - $249.99 SRP.

"We wanted to introduce a new series that not only combines affordability with a new slim design, but features the best that Google has to offer," says Henri Crohas, ARCHOS Founder and CEO. "With the ELEMENTS series we have done just that. It's the perfect balance of hardware, software optimization and content through the Google PlayTM ecosystem."

This has some very decent specs, and room for growth it looks like as well.
Curious if that's a 1ghz single core or dual core CPU.
IPS screen sounds nice, wonder what the resolution will be on it?

And gotta say this , 9.7 inch , very Ipad like.
Given the other article about Apple and the "wedge"
not to mention Apple just being dicks in general

One might worry if this would even hit the shelves for us to get
Or get pulled due to patent issues (even if there aren't any legitimate)
Or if they are going to be making any profit depending on how much liscening fees they are paying on this

The processor is an ARM Cortex A8 @ 1 GHz chip.

ARCHOS Tech Specs

I was tempted then I looked at the processor. Still on the fence as to get the Nexus 7.

If what I read from androidpolice.com then this product is fail. Single core processor with the Nexus 7 coming out at the same price? This is a no. I'm surprised to even see this in the forums.

Seriously, Back?
I totally disagree. I'm doing cartwheels here.

I don't give a f about Dual v Single.
My Droid INC 2 single core can run any app on the market right now and that's good enough for me.
It's in the 10" range @ $250???
I DO NOT WANT ANYTHING UNDER 9.
7 inch tablets are FOR GIRLS.

I have been waiting for a 10ish incher at under $300 from a repuatable company (Not those Coby's) that has ICS on it.
This is it.

/Pre-ordering the day that I can ....
FINALLY!

Well don't hurt yourself with those cartwheels lol. I guess this is Where personal preference comes into play. I prefer the 7" tablets because they feel better in your hands. I plan on using the nexus 7 like a handheld device plus its a tegra 3. If this device fits your needs then by all means get it. I just don't plan on buying tablet devices that aren't capable of out performing my smartphone. Of course all of that is on paper it means nothing in the real world.

OK I got a bit too excited. hahaha
But I have been waiting for something exactly like this.
Archos already makes an ICS Tablet with a 1.5GHZ Proccy that weighs almost 2 lbs(!), but it got some bad reviews from sites I trust.
This doesn't look nearly as bulky as that one either.

I will wait to order until I read some pro reviews....
But this is certainly a front runner as of right now.

The other is, of course, the Transformer. Bought one for the boss and I am very jealous.

Well so much for that. ;)
Buddy knows I have been waiting on the "right" tablet.
Sent me an email yesterday. 1SaleADay.com had refurb 10" Toshiba Thrives for $209 + $5.00 shipping. After a lot of thinking.... I bought one.
I'm good for awhile.
At that price I won't feel bad upgrading come Xmas time. ;)
Commence the cart wheeling. I shall finally have a tablet soon. :D
