I am getting a Tablet from Freedompop which gives 500MB Data /mo. I don't want to worry about overages. Does anyone know of any good apps that will cut off mobile data once set limit is reached?

You can set it on the device yourself

Go to settings > data usage> set data limit

You can set a limit from the default data usage settings on your phone.
However, there are some great apps available you can use to limit your internet data like My Data Manager, Data Usage, or GlassWire Data Manager.
