Maybe I just don't understand what it is for... but after reading one guy say he could set the alarm using it I decided to play around with it.

I can't set my alarm, it says I need to update my clock from apps manager and i have no idea which clock I should update to.

I also wanted to try to dial someone using it. I can't for the life of me figure out how to tell it to dial a contact, maybe thats just not what its for???

I have no idea what's going on with your clock. But as far as your voice search goes, simply press the hard search button on your droid 2 and then when the window comes up press the microphone and say call (whomever) and it should place the call for you.

I don't have the Droid 2 but I assume there is a clock in your apps tray. Go to the clock and press that. You should see an icon on the bottom left that looks like bells. That's your alarm. Click that and set up your alarm there.

When I say "Call ______" it does a google search and ends up listing online contacts. How do I get it to call a contact easily?

Which version of Voice search do you have? Ver 2.0.1 was released recently and has a lot of added functionality and key words to it. Go to Manage Applications and tap the All tab. Scroll down to Voice Search and click on that it will show you the version there.

OK, I see there is a voice commands and a voice search. The voice commands works as I would expect. I guess I was just using the wrong tool.

With the voice commands, I found that I had to create Gmail contacts under the "my contacts" folder in gmail for that functionality to work. Otherwise it would just put the name of the person in the body of the message.

Not sure what you mean by that; aren't your contacts there already? I'm having this sort of problem, though.

I can't seem to get the new Voice Actions update of Voice Search on my D1 to recognize contact names as such. Whenever I dictate proper names from my list, it puts them in the body of a text or mistranslates them as other words. I can't command "call" "text" or "email" with accuracy...
