Any way to disable Moto Car Home/Multimedia Station?

I've got a Milestone (Canada), and half the time when I remove the phone from my holster it reports that it's "connected to Moto Car Home" or "connected to Multimedia station". I found out from this forum that these apps are controlled by a magnet in the back of the handset, and it's the magnetic clasp on my holster that's activating them. (I have also tested this.)

In the interest of saving me a few $ for a holster with a snap on it, is there any way to disable the apps, or the magnetic activation thereof?

If you're rooted, you could delete those Docking apps from the phone.

Also, I think there's an app called Locale on the market that you can use to specify what the phone does in this and that situation.

Well, it is a Milestone, so I think there is a root procedure but it's a little esoteric to me as of yet.
