Android RAZR notification personal customization ???????

I have moved from the Blackberry Bold to the Motorola RAZR and have really enjoyed the change. I am trying to customize or personalize everyone who texts me and can get it to work but dont know if I have it right everytime. It's a bit frustrating trying to customize my contacts and would appreciate an app. or better instructions on how to do this.
