Android N Developer Preview 5 Is Here!

As Android Nougat's final release gets closer Google is continually squashing bugs and tweaking the build. They have just released the 5th developer preview build. There really does not appear to be a whole lot to this update. There is a new easter egg in the settings toggles. The easter egg consists of a game in which you catch a cat. This is a nod to "Android Neko" or Android Cat. Other than that it looks like support for Pokemon Go has been added to Android N in developer preview 5. This will be the final preview. The next update we get from Google will be the final build.

The quick settings toggle from lock screen has been fixed. It toggles on/off instead of opening them, Like Bluetooth and wifi.

Still testing. I will report back with my findings.

So far my experience with Preview 5 has been terrible. (Nexus 5x)

Issues:

Status Bar

1. I get duplicate icons when turning on or off a service, i.e. turn on Bluetooth and then turn it off leaves me two Bluetooth icons in my status bar.
2. I still have the repeat notification error I have had since Preview 3.
3. Lags like crazy.
4. App launches from the status bar are really slow making me think I haven't clicked the icon, and then it opens the app multiple times.

General performance
1. Really slow and lags.
2. Apps crash constantly.
3. Google maps performs weird for me with constant changes in direction (without moving) and is slow.

Positives:

General

1. Split Screen is nice and is getting better. Just waiting for more apps to support it.
a. Favorite use is running Waze and Google music so I get the thumbs up/down as well as skip track buttons. So far it barely works and times Waze out and wont update position, but hopefully it will get better.
2. As Mustang02 noted, quick setting toggles are back.
3. Battery life seems good.

Preview 3 has been the best performing for me so far. App crashes have gotten worse from 3 to 4 and then 4 to 5.

I don't have any of the issues you have. I'd try a clean install or wipe your dalvik.

I had three same thing with the duplicate bt in notification bar, granted I just installed the OTA vs a clean install. No other issues this far and found 3 cats.

I plan on doing a clean install eventually. Being it's not my DD I'm not too concerned yet.

My device is a stock Nexus 5x that is NOT rooted and the bootloader is LOCKED. The update was done via OTA.

...I know it is a crime to have a Nexus still stock, but I wanted to give Android Pay a full chance...well I'm ready to say root is way more worth it than Android Pay.

My 5x is stock and not rooted as well. BL unlocked in case a snafu happened and I needed to flash back.

Btw-. You can use android pay with systemless root. [emoji41]
