Android 2.2 - Froyo

See, I personally dont think that this would have been posted on the main page of the site here, unless someone thinks we will be seeing this sooner then later. I know from reading this site for many months now, there are some folks here who are definately privy to information that us normal folk are not.

We need a dancing froyo icon for this, but the dancing droid will have to do for now. dancedroid And there's always room for the dancing banana :icon_ banana:!

Froyo will be released, however it will be a while before it hits our phones. We will see custom 2.2 rooted roms long before the official release.

For 2.2 to release:

The source code would be out.
The sdk would be released before the source code.
Verizon would test the bjeezus out of it.
Google will release it fot the Nexus One first.


Will we see it in 5 days? Not a chance.

Google Killed the Nexus one last thursday, you can't buy them anymore.. at least from google anyway.

How do you figure they're killing off the Nexus One? I don't think they would kill off their primary dev. phone that easily. Google simply decided that selling it online exclusively was a bad idea, which means that you're going to see N1's pop up in B&M stores.

It'll for sure be an OTA update, right? I'd hate to have to go to the Verizon store or something just to get it.

Seriously? i dont even comprehend the thought pattern here..yes it will be an OTA update.. the update will leak, we'll hack it up, and serve it in rooted form, for all to enjoy..
What issues with flash? you need to check out the adobe guys videos of flash running, it runs smoother than my backup computer..
Froyo will be at the google I/O, and im sure there will be a release shortly thereafter.
i guarantee the incredible wont get it before Droid does..
froyo is past beta(has been in beta, anyways) so whatever they are doing the 19th, it should be about ready to go.

To the best of my knowledge we are all normal people. We may "hear" something from time to time.

If there was a reason that DanDroid started this thread because of something he may have heard then as far as I know he hasn't shared it with the staff.

From what I can tell most of the staff is on board with the idea that it won't be released until June. There may be one or two that have different ideas. I started to speculate on one of these theories but my feeling was that I didn't have enough info to put it forward so I'm staying on the June theory myself.

Since, with root access and a custom kernel the Droid can be a wifi hotspot on 2.1 I would say yes, it can!

Thats not much of a disappointment. 99.98% of people think radio sucks and the other .02% don't know internet radio exists. I have Slacker, Pandora, MP3s, and XiiaLive (ShoutCast Stations) on my Droid. I don't know what I would do with more music.
