I believe Motorola has got Froyo but to put it on the Verizon Moto Droid they are going to need time to disable tethering, Wifi Hotspot, then it will be released.
It is pure speculation to say that they will disable those features. I am not saying they definitely won't but they seem to have learned their lesson about crippling phones and have not taken any major features out of the android os as of yet.
They do also sell other smartphones that include wifi hotspot functionality.
