Android 2.2 - Froyo

I can't see how anyone woudl want to un-root for the update. I mean root useres will see it first and have parts of froyo intergrated into 2.1 until the offical release then there will always be a stock 2.2 rom with root if you want to run stock. I mean I can understand that maybe you dont want the hassle and you want to be able to walk into the vzw store if your phone breaks but this is just my opinion. I like my phone look different and haveing more capabilits then non-root.
Plus word is we will have a rom this week with parts of froyo on it already. we will see how that goes from my understanding but I would bet on it!

theirs a lot of people complaining that there battery life is terrible on 2.2

I'm not saying this is not true ut since its only been a day it would seem that alot of people are probably on their phones more then usualy to try the different features and going through settings and what not. I would like to see a few more days go by and see if that complaint still exists.
Now it could very well be true with all the new stuff that its eating battery life.I guess we will see.

How can you tell?

All-in-all, battery life seems to be less than stellar on my Droid. I am not sure if I could detect a reduction in battery life as I tend to charge it every night and frequently use the USB charge on my laptop.

Motorola Droid Will Receive Android 2.2 in the Near Future - SlashGear

“We’re excited to see Google’s news of the next version of the Android operating system and look forward to integrating it on our Android-based devices as it’s made available to the open source community.”

While I can’t comment on specifics, we do expect DROID by Motorola users will receive Android 2.2 as a software upgrade in the near future.”

Regarding wifi tethering/ hotspot, someone on here had a great plan. He said since VZW charges $30 a month for 5gb of data us smartphone users, who already pay $30 a month for data, should get 5gb of data free. It's a great idea but I doubt it VZW would give us 5gb, more like 2-3 gb.

EDIT: Changed my last post... it wouldn't let me edit it directly for some reason...

We will be under the same rules as the Palm Pixi and PRE. Just an assumption

Why is it so many people have such a negative view of what this update will bring? And what "good stuff" was left out of 2.1. Multiple home screens? What else?

Again, don't look back at 2.1 as any kind of example of how 2.2 will be released. So much negativity. Look at it in the same way that 2.0.1 was released. And even if we did have to wait until July, which I highly doubt, we would still have received 3 updates for the OS in the span of 9 months. How often does any other device get updated? Think iPhone gets 3 updates in 9 months time? Microsoft doesn't update their very flawed OS's but once a year, tops (I'm talking about a new version).

This is going to be a great update I wish people would stop putting it down before it gets a chance to get here.

Bravo Hook!

I agree 100% everyone is an expert on someone else's policy and knows what they are doing/thinking. Lots of paranoid rumor mongering going on here.

As far as tethering is concerned what I can tell you from experience... when I had phones that Verizon OFFICIALLY supported tethering on (Samsung Saga & Two Motorola Q's) the tethering charge was an additional $15.00 a month. The rates may have gone up as I cancelled the tether option on my contract when I got the Droid in December but that is the way Verizon handled tethering at that time.
