Amazon Echo just Trounced Siri and Google Now

I think Google has some great minds working for them.. I honestly think that they will have an answer to this.. Shortly..

Maybe I'm the one not getting it.
You mean folks now carry their phones throughout the house in case they get a text or call? I mean I might move my phone to another part of the house out of range of my Bluetooth music headphones but my phone usually hits the arm of the sofa when I get home and doesn't move until I either plug it in to charge or I leave the house.
Maybe I'm the one out of the loop because I could really see the Echo being useful in my world, might even try Google Now at some point because of this discussion.

Hell yeah I take the phone with me when I leave the recliner. I want credit for the steps I take in s health. Haha

I'm not sold. Its an unproven product. What they showed in the video isnt' real live usage. Also, you can only use it in your home. What about when you want to take that data on the go.

I'm sorry, but my phone does all that, I already own a smartphone with proven good voice recognition and search capabilities and if I want to hear music well, I'll cast it to my receiver where my Chromecast is plugged in at. People thought the Fire phone was going to upset the market....it didn't.

I think it's a cool concept. I really don't need it but nice to have. I can see my wife and kids getting all the information they typically ask me to find.
I didn't see anything about supported languages.
When they package 2 for $100. is when I will consider it.

I think it's pretty cool....And only 99 bucks for prime membes. I just requested an invite to purchase. If I don't like it, I can always re-gift it this Christmas.

I'm not seeing it either. It feels like another gimmick device and I think it'll be one of those things we use for awhile, then get bored with. Smart home technology is getting there, but I don't think it's at the level we see in sci-fi movies and books just yet.

I have to agree with the people not that impressed. Was TROUNCED really used in the headline? Oh, come on now.
Maybe version 3.0 of this will be nice when it CAN serve as the main UI to my connected home... but otherwise I don't see a lot of real world usage for this thing. And I do see myself not being in the same room a lit when I'd like to use "her". ;)
And yea, I do carry my phone around my house, although I do use it for work and am pretty much on call 24/7.
I am also sick and damn tired of the overuse of the word "cloud".
"Alexa gets updates from the cloud...."
Come on.
Amd I guarantee you there's no way it's THAT responsive.
"Alexa, play rock music" and it doesn't need to buffer? It's instantaneous???? BS. ;)

Watched the video in the other thread and I'm skeptical about it at best. The idea is great, almost like your own personal "Jarvis" (for you Iron Man fans). I see the direction they want to head, but it's not quite there yet.

As for me, I wouldn't purchase it, or even think of purchasing it. I feel a bit silly even using Google Now sometimes, I don't want to be saying "Alexa" (really couldn't come up with a better name?) and then asking a question or requesting something. For some weird reason I'd feel more comfortable saying "Amazon", but them trying to make it seem/feel as human as possible, kinda creepy to me.

The voice is terrible. Pack a few gigabytes of natural speech in there.

You can give it any name that triggers it. Alexa is because Amazon owns Alexa.
