Not a total surprise, as I had seen a link to a thread over there a week or so ago, that mentioned the site may be closing. The link was quickly killed, but still left me wondering.
I do hope that not everything is lost. Certainly the developers have their "stuff" safe. And I suspect much of the work that was going on more at the individual thread level, hacks, themes, etc. are stored somewhere, just recreating the environment will take work, somewhere.
To the folks here who may be involved in moving something forward, I would only add my observation that at best that place was pretty neurotic. It was like they wanted to be XDA like, a developers place. There were times I remember thinking, "is this thread too nooby, and gonna get me banned?". Or in the wrong place. But then in the rom developers section things were more foregiving, but not all the time. At least here you will get a reminder, a nudge, perhaps a little on screen "beating", but by and large still friendly to all user levels. I am still completely uncomfortable at XDA, and perhaps too comfortable here, at times.
Forum evolution is natural. This forum has evolved very smoothly. I am sure those of us who have been here since the early days know what I mean. Back in the day, the hack section was like thin ice at times. Seemed like the admin. wanted to move into hacking very methodically, almost so as to not "piss" any group/organization/entity off. Likley just more of a long term stratigy, dunno.
What I do know is that the masses who use the phones and who frequent the forums have skill levels that run from a-z. And also exhibit manners that pretty much run a-z. If the new Alldroid forum aims to target X,Y and Z with no plans to target a,b, and c, then I hope they square that away properly. DF certainly has demonstrated a gameplan that can encompass all users, although at times it must really frustrate the admin. But they are doing a fine job, creating an environment that is usefull for everyone. Something to ponder......
