Advanced Calling On Verizon Doesn't Work If Rooted

nexus2cee_hd_thumb.jpg

For all the reasons you should root your device here is one great reason not to root your device. Not too long ago Verizon rolled out Advanced calling. This allows you to enjoy High Def Voice and Video Calls. With this you can also surf while you are talking on the phone. If your phone is rooted you won't be able to enable Advanced calling. These are two things I can live without. It only works if both parties are using it. You could also burn through your data pretty quickly with this since video calls do use your data. Is this enough to keep you from rooting your phone?

Interesting. I have two LG G3's that are rooted and TWRP enabled and advanced calling is working fine on both.

It's my understanding that I have to have Advanced Calling enabled the browse and talk at the same time

Nope, not correct at all.
If you are in an LTE area the data portion will use LTE and the voice can use CDMA.
Having the "new advanced" calling has nothing to do with it.
I have been able to talk and surf on my LG G3 since the first day I got it, almost a year ago.

I have the LG G4. Phone calls today, since turning off Advanced Calling, are showing data connection of 1x

That used to work back in the day on rooted devices when folks had gps or connection issues. Toggling airplane mode would often fix those issues. I've never heard it used for this particular issue though.

I thought your phone was stuck at 1x in an area where you normally see LTE.
HD Voice only works when you have LTE. HD voicer is VOLTE (Voice over LTE).
So I don't know what type of area you are in.
If you are in an LTE area you should be able to surf and talk without HD Voice.

We have HD Voice in my area, but unless you have it enabled on Verizon's end you cannot talk and surf at the same time on the G4. I turned my HD voice off last week, in hopes of increasing battery life.
