adding a gmail based email account

So, my school's email is ran through gmail, but when I try to add it as an account on my phone, it doesn't accept it. Anyone have any ideas how to get it working?

Yeah I've been trying to figure out how to do this too.

Currently I have my school email being forwarded to my main gmail account so I get my school emails to my phone and get notified when I get a new email.

I was able to set up email on my Incredible using both the gmail app and the HTC mail apps. I think you need a google account, but that is also your gmail account. I hate to admit it but I followed the instructions on page 10 of the little booklet that came with the phone.

I think the official GMail app only takes @gmail.com addresses. Try using the normal Mail app or get your school's IT department to help you (those IT people also probably use Androids).

Login to your gmail account at Google. You can add additional accounts there in settings. I have my Pop3 accounts added to the gmail account at Google. The emails will then be sent to the gmail app on your phone.
