activating bought droid phone

i hope im not reposting, i just didnt know how i could search for what im asking.

my gf's dad bought a Motorola Droid 1 (verizon) off someone on craigslist.

the phone looks good..

he said that when he called verizon they told him it was still activated under another account.

how can i get this phone to be activated??

i just dont understand why it cant be used, i thought it'd be good. trying to reconfirm what i should do.

Get the guy off Craigslist to deactivate it.

Either do as the last person suggested and get the person on cl to remove (providing it was actually his to sell in the first place) or flash it to a provider like cricket and resell it.
