A dumbphone hacked to run Android?

I am in a dilemma. I have a Droid 2, but I can't afford the data package anymore.

I was wondering if there is a dumbphone, or feature phone available that can be hacked to run Android, and still work on the Verizon network. I'm just attached to Android, and they won't let me remove my data plan and only use WiFi.

But Android is open source, and a distro of Linux. I know it would take some work, and there would have to be some kind of interest in the idea.

A good programmer can adept the Android OS to many devices but i wouldn't hold my breath for it. I know that a D2 should be flash-able to a cheaper service provider.

in San Diego many people flash them to Cricket, about $35 per month all together with data.

I'm in central Indiana. We don't have much choice in the line of providers around here, and none of them with as good of coverage as Verizon. Even Sprint and AT&T don't get good service around here.

I've checked into Cricket, and MetroPCS. Neither are available here. We have one called Revol, StraightTalk, along with Virgin Mobile, and T-Mobile. Virgin and T-Mobile get no coverage where I need it. I don't know anyone on Revol, and the coverage map didn't look promising. I have a friend on StraightTalk, but I haven't asked how her coverage is. Basically it's Big Red, or nothing around here. It's almost a monopoly on good phone service.

Damn.. Indiana is tough.. T-Mobile i had for 3 days before Verizon, the only good thing i can say about them is that they let me out of the contract with no fee.

Straight talk is actually on VZW network not sure if a d2 can be flashed to it or not but if VZW service works good in your area straight talk will too.

You may be able to get straight talk working if you can fine someone willing.to set it up. Same with revol. They have cheap plans but are usually unlimited.
