lol. if you don't feel comfortable rooting the phone then you shouldn't. enjoy it the way it's meant to be, with the provided OS.

Some of us are waiting even though we feel completely confident rooting the Droid. I'm just enjoying not having to really do anything for a change (Damn BB Storm )

I have no problems changing things, but I haven't installed 2.1, I'm willing to just wait. In all honesty, I'm quite happy with everything about my phone except for the little things like force closes and reboots... which in all honesty happen so infrequently that its not even a big issue.

Just a few OS glitches to be fixed and I really think the phone is perfect.

Yeah, I too am holding out for the official update, even though I'm really interested in the changes. I would like to see some documentation about it actually coming in January though. I feel confident that I could root the phone by myself; it seems so simple. But I'm still getting used to 2.01 so I don't mind waiting another month.

This is one thing that I do not like about the Droid. Who should we look for for the software updates. Motorola, Verizon, or Google. I would think Motorola should inform us with these software updates on their site.

the updates come to you automatic from verizon :icon_eek: i haven't rooted or manually updated to 2.1 although i did manually update the last one (will i still get the auto update from verizon?) i have however put the new gallery and clock and news things on thanks ta tigger woot woot they rock!! i've also put on swype and it's the most amazing keyboard i've EVER seen!!! woot!! :icon_ banana:

Have not read or heard of anyone truly bricking their Droid....i.e. Beyond recovery.....

You are talking about an OS update that is not even official yet. For all you know when the Nexus 1 ships with 2.1 there will be a patch update or a patch update on the Droid. Just because something is ripped and leaked early does not mean Verizon, Google, and Motorola are obligated to release it. When the OS becomes "official" then it will be released.

I wrote a post shortly after 2.0.1 that we go through phases. First right after a new release there is a phase where everybody praises the release. The next phase is followed by high criticism of the release. This is followed by acceptance. Then we enter the fourth phase and that's when everyone starts talking about the next update release.

We are now in that phase. Either root the Droid and install yourself or be patient and wait for the OTA. I mean it hasn't even been a month since the last release came out. I can wait on it, that's still much faster then any official release was for the Storm.
