2.1, 2.2 question.

I have the droid 2 with android version 2.2(froyo). My friend has the og droid and it looks like the 2.1(eclair i think) but in the about part jt says it has 2.2.2. If this is froyo why does it look different? Why does it not look like froyo on the droid 2 and droid x?

There are different "Build Numbers" for each device. For example, my device says 2.2.2, but if you scroll down a little further it says:
Build Number:
FRG83G

Different builds of 2.2.2 on different devices may look different. Also, is your buddy using a home replacement app like ADW or LauncherPro ? That will make it look different also. Or is his version of 2.2.2 from a Custom Rom? That will make it look different too.
