Root

I did check it right when you posted, so I know it's not that. I'll keep an eye on things though. The phone was running warm a little while ago, but back to normal by touch currently

I would download wakelock detector from the Play Store and let it run for a day or two. Your wakelocks are crazy.

Also, has your cellphone reception always been that poor? Is that yellow?

Yep, we have steel siding on the house, and my city in general is just pretty weak. Even with my Motorola phones I was lucky to get 3 bars

Some carriers will give you a cell expander that will boost your signal inside of your house. That alone will improve your battery life.

Yeah, they want 250 for it. I don't make/receive calls much and when I do it doesn't seem like there is a connectivity issues, so a booster is unnecessary. I never had an issue with lack of signal contributing to drained battery before. This drain is the result of doing root

Wow. $250 is pretty steep. AT&T gave us one for free when we first built our house out of town.

You could always flash back to stock and see what happens.

I'm going to give it a few days to see if it evens itself out.
I work with Verizon, and they still want money for it

Let us know how it goes the next couple days. It "should" improve. A couple members on our S5 sister forum had similar battery drain after rooting under the previous OS 4.4.2 and it did improve after a few days. You could also do a 10 battery pull. Then boot into stock recovery and clear cache.
With your phone off, press and hold the Power button, Volume Up button and Home key. You'll see a blue notification in the top left of the screen and then an animated Android image until you are brought to the recovery menu.
Use the volume buttons to scroll and power button to confirm.
Use the volume down button to scroll to ''Wipe cache partition'' and hit Power button to select. You'll see a notification in the bottom left in yellow that says it has completed.
Reboot and see how that goes.
Hang in there Jackie!

Hi Jackie!
Just wanted to check in and see how your device was doing since we spoke last. Have you seen any improvements with your battery life and other issues you were experiencing after rooting?
Can you tell us if it improved on its own or did a FDR help? Hopefully it's been running great for you. Please post an update when you get chance. (fingers crossed)

It seems to be a lot better than it was, but not exactly where I was prior. I have not done a FDR.

Just curious, any further developments on this Jackie? Are you still experiencing less than pre-Root battery life?

Good question. If not, have you had a chance to do an FDR? I know that's helped a number of folks who had this problem on our S5 sister forum and its helped dramatically.
Inquiring minds want to know!
