Droid Razr no sim card

My boyfriends phone just started giving him this message "A SIM card is needed to operate this phone. Please turn off your phone and insert your SIM card."

The sim card is in it. We've tried taking it out and putting back in and rebooting a few times and still get the same thing. Ideas?

Could be a bad SIM card, try switching it out at Verizon?

They are free so as dezy suggested, I'd pick up a new one.
