Worst phone/worst customer service

PROBELMS:
1-google bar freezes constantly
2-browser screen freezes white
3-on 2 occassions phone rang but screen was completely black and couldn't see caller/answer phone. Phone shut itself off I guess and when back to normal, no missed calls were listed
4-while talking on phone, cheek hit screen and put call on speaker but the number 4 was lit up on dialpad as if I was pressing it...couldn't hang up/get off speaker until I told person on other end of line to hang up
5-most consistent problem is google bar only lighting up on bottom half and when typing, only the bottom half of letters are visible and when hitting the magnifying glass icon...nothing and can't erase or backspace..this happens sporadically but at least 5-7 times a week

I bought my moto droid dec 2 and had couple of issues with it the first few weeks. SD card problem and ringer volume problem. Went to store...told me to take out battery..blah blah....fixed. Couple days later, more problems including frozen screen, frozen google task bar and frozen browser screen. They RUDELY replaced my phone on Dec 28 and told me I was THE FIRST and ONLY customer to ever have a problem like this. Ok..since then I have called verizon about 8-10 times and been to 3 seperate verizon stores and a total of 7 visits. I made sure to immediately race to the nearest store whenever I had an issue with my phone so they could physically see the problem and know that I wasn't lying. Again...frozen screen stuff and whatnot. Solutions included taking out battery and restarting phone, uninstalling advanced task killer and a soft reset that they performed at the verizon store. I was told that although they could see my issues, once they restarted my phone and could not duplicate the issue then there was nothing they could do. Problems did not go away and yesterday phone was replaced again at 2:30 pm. 8 hours later I experienced half lit up google bar and I shut phone off. This morning I had frozen google bar so I called AGAIN and then raced to the store with the issue visible to the verizon employee and they told me my only options were getting ANOTHER moto droid or giving me a different phone, but with no credit for the $330 I paid for this piece of garbage and to boot, I would have to pay $70 for a battery for whatever phone I chose since new phones don't come with batteries??!! HELP!! I am at the end of my rope and sincerely about to cancel my contract and switch to another carrier....any advice???

Hey mate,

letz see if i can help!

After reading your whole thread, i duont really know what to advise. Your phone surely is NOT a normal one, with all the issues you experienced. For me it sounds like Hardware/OS failures. But as you still experience the same with 2 new phones, something must be strange there.

1. Have you EVER changed on the simcard? In a german forums i heard from the same issue, being caused by a damaged simcard. Ever tryed just a prepaid one?

2. In my country there is a law, securing the customers. It says that if you swap a device for three times, they have to give you something else, speaking of a total different brand, like getting a blackberry. IDK if its the same with you in the states.

3. If 2. does not apply for the us, keep constantly running to the store, pointing out that you dont have A PHONE YOU CAN RELY ON, but pay for. This is serious business man.

I will forward this to two verizon wireless reps, i personally know. See if they can do something!

Tigger

tigger what do you mean by simcard? the droid doesn't have one does it?

@ kooter - probably a dumb question but are you plugged in when this stuff happens? if so is it an aftermarket charger? if not, i have no idea and tigger is tha man for forwarding this to the 2 reps we have in here :D good luck

He means your SD card - if it's damaged then it could be the problem. You are having very unusual problems - it's not typical, most Droids works fine. I've had mine since Day 3 and it's been terrific. Yeah I had to return it once but it was a minor problem.

A good point also is how you charge it - you should use the charger it comes with or the Dock you buy from Verizon.

If they keep switching phones and the same problems keep coming up it has to be the SD card or something you are doing.

Hey,

no i ment SIM card, but forgot CDMA doesnt have this, right?
Then i am out of any device. a damaged SD card could be the problem as well.

I see where your frustrations are coming from...........but , honestly if you have already gone through 2-3 brand new phones , it has to be something that you are installing in it that is causing these repeated issues.
Here is the problem that I hear from Verizon Techs as well as on a few forums......all these apps that are on the market place are not 100% safe to use on selected android phones and not only that some apps that may be on your phone CANNOT work with other apps that you may have installed. I hope I am making some sense in explaining this.
1 advice that I can give you.......make sure you have insurance coverage , just in case the phone happens to fly through the window or something (HINT HINT)

Yea. so i guess he needs to do three things.

Reset the phone to factory
remove sd card
then running the phone 2 weeks WITHOUT changes.

If it works > it was an app or an app combination / sdcard
if it doesnt work > Get back the phone

My guess since it's his first post is that there is a good possibility he's a troll. Sorry, got to call them like I see them. If he's not a troll then why not comment on some of the feedback that everyone gave him. This is the second suspected troll post I've seen and it's early yet.

Guys have a real life as well, if he wont aswer within 2 days, u know its trolling. but before that, i wouldnt automatically assume it!

As a VZW CSR, and Droid owner, that there are some apps that can cause your phone to do bad things. I would start out with a hard reset, try it for 24 hours, if no issues, add a app, after 24 hours add the next app. When you get to an app loaded that causes trouble, delete it, and continue process until all is loaded, but the apps that are causing you problems.

I had some issues with my Droid when I first got it. Shortly after, there was a version upgrade and that fixed all my problems that I was having before.
The only problems I have usually occur after downloading certain apps. If I experience any changes after downloading an app, I instantly uninstall it....no matter how bad I wanted that app.
I'm not sure if that applies to you, I just thought I'd give you something else to consider.
Good luck

Thanks for the positive feedback/advice people and to the others. I have yet to download any applications on this new droid...even task killer, since one of the techs had me uninstall my advanced task killer and instead upload taskiller on my 2nd droid and problems did not go away. So basically my phone is just as I got it almost 48 hrs ago. I don't understand peoples negativity. I paid $330 for a top of the line phone and have had 2 replacements and a grocery list of issues. I charge phone normally...

Don't install Task Killer again. There's mixed feelings here on the forum about it but IMO you don't need it.
Also stay away from ANY anti-virus applications. These will only cripple your device for no reason, since there are no confirmed viruses on Android.

When you do start installing apps, try giving your phone some time after EACH install. This may help you weed out any potential problem causers one-by-one.... rather than loading the phone with apps and then trying to back track.

Stick to OEM chargers. There are 'rogue Droid' issues with other chargers.

Good luck.

Okay...thanks. I actually asked the techs in-store if any of these problems could be due to applications I've uploaded in the past and they seemed confused. My boyfriend seems to think my memory card may be to blame?!
