Wifi vs 3g

Here's a (probably) silly question.

I know that if I have the WiFi on that will increase the online speed.
Will it also have a beneficial effect on cell call service as well?
Or is cell coverage strictly in the 3g realm?

Calls are neither wifi nor 3g, so no effect.
