Wifi or 3G

How do I know that I'm using wifi? I have the unlimited data plan and that is no request to validate a wifi network. How do I know that I haven't turned on my wifi network but am still using my 3G network?

In the notification bar on the top of your device, will show a radar looking device if you are connected to wifi. And if you are on 3G it will show 3G. The only time both will be up there us if you are using both simultaneously (ie phone call, while browsing on wifi).

It still seems counter intuitive to me that wifi comes in with the push of a button. How come there in no login requirement like when my friend with laptops try and login to my home network?

Well if its connected to an open network it wont ask you.
Are you connected to the same network as they are?

Well, I'm connected to my home network though I didn't ever remember entering the password. The advantage to wifi is that it's available when 3G is not and wifi streams video faster and uses less battery. Is that correct?

Wifi uses more battery afaik.

But it is faster depending on the broadband internet connection.

WIFI Available?

Skype, with Verizon has been 3G and apparently can not be used on Wifi. Right? There is a app (Xeudosus) which I THINK opens up 3G for the Droid x on verizon. Isn't that what the phone comes with? It must do more, everyone seems really gratefull for tha app. Is there anything out there that allows SKYPE to be used over WIFI? I've spent quite a while looking this up and can't find the answer.

THanks very much!
