Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Power Saver Bar

I'm not sure what this bar is called, but it has options that you can enable such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, backlight, etc. I was wondering why I would want to enable Wi-Fi on my cell phone since I already have a data plan and can connect to the Internet. When would you want to enable this?

Do you know what the last 3 buttons are on that bar? The last one is the light, the one before that I think is sync, but I don't know what the one next to bluetooth is.

Wi-Fi can be faster, and while on wi-fi you can talk on the phone while you can still get on the internet. Can't do both while on 3G. I have all may Wi-Fi points remembered on my phone. When I get within range on them it hooks up, when I leave the area it switched back to 3G or 2G.
