Are you sure you can root the i1? I wasn't aware an exploit had been found.

For my Droid, the points most important to me:

Wireless tether so one or more laptops can use your Verizon internet access wirelessly.

Able to overclock your CPU to twice its normal speed, yet underclock when your screen is off, or when the temperature is too hot or your battery is getting low thus saving battery.

Being able to backup your APPS and data using Titanium.

Being able to theme and customize the look and feel.

Being able to go ahead and put Flash and Android 2.2 on it which runs so much much much faster and smoother than 2.1 though one-tenth of 1% of the users here will refute that.

IMO, if you can't fish for yourself you shouldn't even consider rooting. At least check out the Hacking/ROM's section.
