In addition to mwhartman's suggestions, I would also highly recommend AppBrain:

AppBrain - the best Android apps and games on the Android market

While the other sites mentioned are great for app news and reviews, AppBrain is more like the Market web client that Google should have created in the first place.

I allows you to:

• Search for apps
• Filter "spam apps"
• Remotely manage, install and uninstall apps
• Find recommended apps based on what you already have
• Read an both the Market reviews as well as an alternate review and rating system

Highly recommended. After using this (there is a phone client that you also use), I rarely visit the actual market directly anymore.

Another vote for AppBrain. The remote installs are glitchy for me, but at least leave the failed ones in the market stuck trying so I can just restart them from there.
