I read from one of the feeds in my reader, the story that the Eris was reaching it's "End of Life"(I believe that was the term) in May 2010. I emailed verizon yesterday and got a response this morning stating:
Dear xxxxxx,
Good morning. At this time, our records does not indicate that the HTC Droid Eris will be discontinued in May 2010. I wanted to speak with you personally to discuss this matter, however; it was too early to call you when I received your e-mail at 9:29 am. My name is Javona and below I have provided you with additional information regarding your questions and concerns.
If the HTC Droid was to be discontinued, software updates would be continue as scheduled. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, however; I cannot provide you with a date that software updates considered or approximate release dates, as this may raise expectations that may not be met. Please understand that Customer Service is not provided with this information before hand. Once software is available for your device, you will receive a message advising of new software.
If the device was discontinued, and you were required to file an insurance claim, this would not be handled by Verizon Wireless, your claim would be processed directly through the third party insurance company Asurion. You may contact Asurion directly at 888-881-2622 to discuss substitution devices.
Mr. xxxxx, providing each and every customer with the highest standards in customer service is my pleasure. I hope that I was able to show you that you are a valued customer and that your business is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Javona

In my original email I asked if it was going to be discontinued, what would happen regarding updates if it did, what would happen if I needed a replacement, and when is 2.1. I don't ever believe Verizon's customer service, but take it as you will. Sorry for the rushed, sloppy email.
