Was there a stealth update?

All the mp3s on my phone that I listen to everyday are now telling me "This audio device does not support these music types" or something to that effect, and now is flushing all my mp3s off the play list?!?

This is what I require to keep my sanity at work! HELP!

power your phone off, take your battery and your card out. leave your battery out for at least 30s and put it back in. power your phone back on without the sd card and wait for it to boot (it will try to mount the sd card, wait until that process finishes). turn your phone back off and take the battery out again, put the sd card back in and put the battery in after 30s. power back on and report your findings.

also, take your sd card out and put it in a reader (if you have one) to see if files are really vanishing.

there will never be a stealth update (they don't exist) and files wouldn't magically vanish from your card.

you either have a bad card, a loose card, or an app that is causing the problem.

I haven't had a single problem thus far, and all the directorys on the card are gone, minus the folders its creating as I open the gallery looking for photos and videos I created.

I'll cry if my flash card just got nuked

Hmmm.. after turning it off with no SD card in, it powered back up on its own after I told it to power down. More like it cycled / rebooted than shutting down.

This is just strange

is it plugged in? you can't power off the phone if it's plugged in.

are you sure you didn't mount your SD card and that's why everything is gone?

It was plugged in charging, but I never told it to mount. Lets just pray i'm making a nub mistake, but i'm pretty tech savey.

And after reboot with SD card in, same thing, 4 folders left and nothing else on the card

DCIM (from looking for photos) - Empty
LOST.DIR - Empty
newsrob - (Google reader app) - Empty
tmp - Empty

For all intents and purpose, my sd card was just formated.....

I was just stareing at a list of mp3s, went to play them in the Music app, said they weren't valid, next thing you know the music starts to disappear, pop up astro to see whats going on, and all my music, roms, pictures, videos are all gone, even my ring tones.....

wtf

Looking at the SD card setting and its showing 14.93 GB Free, Available space 14.93 GB - What the hell just happened......

I've downloaded quite a few apps in the last day or two after stealing some suggestions from the Droid Screenshot threads, hand cent, a hand full of games.....

Apps are still fine (but their on a different storage area...) but if they link to any files on the SD card thats kinda gimped now (aka Mabilo Ringtones, hence instead of a download button they have a play button)

and let this serve as a reminder as to why its important to even back up your brand new toys....

there IS an option to format the SD card (altough I've never gotten it to work)... maybe just a n00b mistake?

Unless my girlfriend was being nosey (which she is, but has a droid so isn't n00b). I mean she knows enough to be dangerous, I mean theres no history to get rid of from being snoopy lol. Hence in her wildest dreams she wouldn't format the sd card, and god knows I didn't feel like reconverting those movies with handbrake. I guess a nice christmas eve playing on my phone again won't kill anyone.
