Want Phone to Announce who is calling

OlgaYARS

Is there anyway I can get my Droid Incredible to verbally announce who is calling me like my old phone did? If they were in my contacts, it would say their name; if not, just the number.

Thanks for your help.

1.Make a custom ringtone for each contact saying their name
2. Set custom made ringtones for each individual contact
3. ????
4. Profit

Say My Name

There's an app called Say My Name in the market that does that. I actually recently uninstalled it because there are only about 2 people who ever call me and I got tired of "Mom" getting shouted out from my phone in public, but if that's what you're looking for it's the app you want.

Is there anyway it could detect if earplugs are in or not, and only announce it if they are? I'd only find the feature useful if I could hear it through earphones ONLY.

No chance on the earphones. I have soemthing that announces a caller and can't imagine why any developer would think it's only useful with headphones. Problem is, at least for me, that there is no way to assign which callers you want the announcement. It can create problems when you're out and people can hear who is calling. That's the only real issue - needs to be assigned to contacts.

Mostly because the only time I'd want it to announce who it is, is when i'm listening to music. Then, instead of just pressing the button, you have to wonder "who is this? do I want to answer?"

Then you gotta get the phone out of your pocket, and make sure to not click "answer" while doing so.

I'm not saying the entire program should be earphones only, but add it as an option. Like a checkmark box "earphones only?" and when checked, that's what it does. When left alone it would do it through both.

Hopefully a developer sees this.

Looks like this might be what you're after? Works with Bluetooth devices, too.

Enhanced SMS & Caller ID

I tried this program and quickly uninstalled it. It didn't work for me. I'm using a Motorola H710 BT. I'm also looking for the capability to hear the caller's name or phone number *through my bluetooth* device. I'm really not interested in the program blaring out the name on the speakerphone.

Has anyone else gotten this to work for them?

Enhanced SMS & Caller ID

I installed the the Enahnced SMS & Caller ID on my Moto Droid, but I can't get the program to work properly. I was emailing the developer today and we can't seem to figure out why it's not working. Can anyone help me? :icon_eek:

I found the problem.....I think

I desided to try a different bluetooth to see if the caller ID & SMS readout would work and low and behold it did! I switched from the Jabra BT8040 headset to the Motorola S9 headset. I'm wondering now if the Jabra just isn't compatible (which isn't likly since it was working earlier then all of a sudden stopped working) or if it stopped working because the battery was low on the bluetooth and it needed to be charged? Hummm, I'll find out tomorrow when I try to use the Jabra again. :icon_ banana: I will keep you posted on my results.

It sounds like we will need to use a Bluetooth headset that is capable of playing stereo. Unfortunately there are only 2 or 3 funny looking BT headsets that stream music and I'm not about to buy one of those yet :)

How did it go with the Jabra?

The Jabra isn't working to read the caller ID but it will read the SMS. On the developers website, it list the Jabra BT8040 as being one of the compatiable bluetooth headset. Also if it works with the SMS why isn't it working with the Caller ID? Sounds like a problem with the programming.

Caller Id Reader

There is an APP called "caller id reader" on the Incredible.. I hated it, as the phone would announce the name and numbers pretty low, and could not hear it in the least bit of noisy environment.

I prefer not to have the caller announced out loud, so I have place pictures in my album and attached them to the individual's telephone number so their pictures show up on my screen when they call. Not directly responsive to your question, but something you might think about in the alternative.
