VM and Text notification

I used to have a Samsung Galaxy - when i received a VM or text a folder would pop up on screen with the number of calls etc- with the Droid 4 i just got, i cant figure a way to make that happen - Verizon sez this phone does not have that function and i have to pull the screen down everytime- is that possible ? is there an app or setting than i am missing

I don't know about voicemails, but the stock messaging app does not support text pop'ups. Simply download an alternative messaging app from the play store with this capability. My favourite is GO sms
