running team chaos red rum froyo..
i thought i liked the new camera software with froyo but i cant send video mms "says it's too large", even running the low mms 30 sec (which doesn't work, you have to manually stop at 30 seconds).
the quality on low is terrible, worse then 2.1 was.

anyone else having problems? have tried even sending a 5 sec video to no avail...

cant send it through stock messaging app or handcent (yes i changed the max file size to 1m in handcent)

don't know if this is just with T.C. ROM or a glitch in 2.2

Hmm, well decided to reflash rom and now at least I can send video on "low mms"...don't know what happened before but it works...?? Before I couldn't even send a 5 sec "low" video

Do u think the "low" quality on 2.2 sucks compared to low 2.1 quality? My wife's phone is stock 2.1-1 and even she noticed the video quality saying "wow that sucks" from the vid msg I sent...

Anyway to tweak the camera software to match the quality it was on 2.1??

just wondering if you have had the time to look into the quality of "low" video msg's? this is really the only downfall of 2.2 for me so far...have tried numerous roms and they all have the very choppy pixel lated video (looks like a video from one of my phones from 5 yrs ago)...

and to confirm 2.1.1 video "low" msg's dont look this bad...the 2.2 camera is fine just video is crap...

i was able to remove the 2.2 camera.apk so i tried to push the 2.1 with no success...any ideas?
anyway to port over 2.1.1 video? maybe i didnt do it right..
2.1 has it as camera.apk, 2.2 is cameragoogle.apk
tried to just force 2.1 apk unable to install, then i tried to rename 2.1 to cameragoogle.apk..Nothing!!

-su
-/system mounted RW
-rm /system/app/CameraGoogle.apk
-rm /data/dalvik-cache/system@app@CameraGoogle.apk@classes.dex
-rm -r /data/data/com.google.android.camera
-busybox install /sdcard/CameraGoogle.apk /system/app
-reboot

ok found this over on Bugless Beast forum and decided to try it out..it works!!!...credit to OP..
Not sure if this subject has been touched on yet but I believe I found out how to enable higher quality video recording to Froyo builds, but please correct me if I'm mistaken.

It seems that in 2.2, Google changed the Build.prop file which used to contain the data that controlled video recording quality. Now you can navigate to /etc/media_profiles.xml file and if you scroll down halfway through the file you'll see text that reads Camcorder Profiles. The first data set controls the "high" quality recording settings and changing the bitRate from 3000000 to 7000000 or 8000000 will greatly increase recording quality based on my observations. If anyone can really put this to test that would be wonderful!

Thanks all and best of luck!

if you look at the froyo "low" vs. 2.1
2.1 low quality=
ro.media.enc.lprof.file.format=mp4
ro.media.enc.lprof.codec.vid=m4v
ro.media.enc.lprof.codec.aud=amrnb
ro.media.enc.lprof.vid.width=320
ro.media.enc.lprof.vid.height=240
ro.media.enc.lprof.vid.fps=15
ro.media.enc.lprof.vid.bps=200000
ro.media.enc.lprof.aud.bps=12200
ro.media.enc.lprof.aud.hz=8000
ro.media.enc.lprof.aud.ch=1
ro.media.enc.lprof.duration=30

now look at froyo release=
EncoderProfile quality="low" fileFormat="mp4" duration="60">
<Video codec="m4v"
bitRate="96000"
width="176"
height="144"
frameRate="20" />

so far it works great,,including high quality "changed mine to 8000000"...

So how did you do that? I tried a gag on my friend but the video was awful.

Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk

Endstate: not a funny gag.

Would you mind posting all the text from your media_profiles.xml file? Right now I'm only able to record in low and youtube quality. Rather, I can record in HQ, but the 3gp files are corrupted or something as they won't play in anything including the phone. I've tried tweaking the xml file but haven't had much success yet. I'm hoping I could take a look at yours and troubleshoot mine. Thanks for your help... anyone who can help!! :)

Nevermind. I was able to find a clean copy of media_profiles.xml from a rom zip file. From there, I only changed the bitrate to 8M for high @ 720x480, and changed the low quality profile to equal what was in 2.1 exactly. I had tried changing the low quality profile data before but would get stuck at the M logo when rebooting. Apparently, the values you put in there have to work together, like you can't put a bitrate of 192000, it won't work for some reason. Having the 2.1 as a guide did the trick. Thanks longrifle! :)
