May be totally unconnected but got my 2.2 update yesterday for my Droid. Now I cannot put it on vibrate only. Goes from lowest ringtone to silent. No vibrate function. Anybody got an idea what happened? Thanks.

Are you sure that it's not: that it goes to vibrate but no silent mode?

Welcome to 2.2 - Read around about the changes so you dont think your phone is &*@$ed up. This is normal (but a dumb change in my opinion).

You probably just have silent mode clicked on in the settings, and therefore it will only go to silent and not vibrate. However when you take it out of silent mode in settings, then you can only go to vibrate. Oh google. What were you thinking..

So I can either have silent and ring with no vibrate or ring and vibrate with no silent?

exactly. and it stinks. I usually run my phone on loud, but I can't have it on during a meeting so id turn it to silent, and put it on vibrate when i can use it but don't want to distract people.

I'm sure someone will build a custom rom or app to bring back the functionality or something.

i just put on the "silent toggle widget", it does the job for now.. basically little button on your desktop that you toggle between sound/vibrate/silent.

This has been my biggest gripe with 2.2. I usually bounce between vib.and silent throughout the day. Now to have to open settings to do so...just a bad change.

No more "VIBRATE ONLY" fuction

As others have noted, the new V2.2 eliminates the capability to set phone to "VIBRATE ONLY!" Amazing that such a basic feature, obviously used by so many, would be eliminated in an upgrade designed to make IMPROVEMENTS to the OS!

they need to return this feature, I just installed the update about 2 hours ago and already hate it for this reason. I am usually always on vibrate only because of work and school, its rare for me to have it on loud. I have it on silent just when I sleep, sometimes vibrate only. But this feature needs to be returned asap.

I've seen many threads with this complaint. It puzzles me that with so many easy workarounds that this is such a big deal. There are multiple apps/widgets that will resolve this. Audio manager pro lets you set profiles and create shortcuts to them. Beautiful widgets has a silent and a vibrate widget. There are also specific widgets that let you cycle between normal, vibrate and silent available in the Market. I believe that Google got complaints that people were silencing their phones accidentally with the old setup. Hence the change.

But stilll

I am a software developer by trade. You cannot change things like this on the consumer. It should be an option in the settings to do it in any kind of new and "improved" way rather than subjecting the customer to that automatically. What's worse is the fact that it is very different, indeed. I cannot set it to silent without it vibrating..unless I want to permanently disable vibrating... How freakin' stupid!

I knew when they changed it why they must have done it---because so many folks would turn their ringer all the way down/off instead of vibrate like they wanted. I, too, had this issue and learned quickly how it works. Now I have to relearn.

Well, I got the widget to put on my desktop now to toggle between silent, vibrate, and ringtone. So that works.

I also have all kinds of other issues with this update including the fact that it broke 3 apps, screwed up my exchange email account with my work email, and the fact that the update made my entire phone run like crap.

Google: Get a handle on your junk.
