Verizon Nexus Echoing when using earbuds to talk

I have the Verizon Nexus and every time I use the ear buds to talk the person on the other end hears a horrible echo. Anybody experience this? Does anybody have any recommendations? It seams like it happens when I call out.

Never had a phone call while using earbuds yet. I've heard stories of cheaper headphones causing echoing, but I don't have a pair that has a mic either so I can't give any personal input.
