Verizon has not been the friendliest to tinkerers and developers since the days of the original Droid. They kind of sort of threw us a bone with the Galaxy Nexus, but crippled the device with untimely updates. Today the HTC One was finally made available on their network. With a robust network like that of Verizon's you can kind of get away with releasing a device a few months late. The overall assumption has been that the Verizon variant of the HTC One would be locked down tight from the get go. This has not been the case!

It seems that a group of eager folks at XDA grabbed the device, ran home, and gave HTCdev.com a shot. HTCdev allows you to easily unlock your bootloader. Unlike Nexus devices that can be easily unlocked and relocked via fastboot, you need to generate a token with HTCdev marking your device as bootloader unlocked and killing your warranty. For now you can choose "other devices" at HTCdev.com and unlock your Verizon HTC One. I have a feeling that Verizon will soon coerce HTC into blocking their device on HTCdev. That being said if you want an unlocked bootloader you should go do it NOW!
