A team of students at the St. Petersburg University of Russian Academy of Sciences in conjunction with Parallels are working on a Project that has two separate instances of Android running on the same Android device! Parallels is a company that is mostly known for cloud computing and virtualization software. In the video you can see that the Galaxy S2 is running Stock Gingerbread in one instance and then they switch over to Cyanogen Mod 9 in the second instance. Everything looks to be running without lag. They demonstrate some Angry Birds GamePlay and show some decent 3D benchmark results. According to the team running two concurrent instances of Android at once only takes about 10% off of the battery life.
This would be perfect for modders who would like to test out and try new roms on a regular basis. You could keep your daily driver on one instance and install everything else on the other instance. This could also be great for employers who could have personal accounts on one instance and the business account on the second instance with maybe a security pinlock on the second instance. This product is still in very early development so it may be a while before we see this.
Would you be interested in Parallels for Android if say you paid $50 for the software and you could run two separate Operating systems (ie one instance of Windows and one instance of Android)?
